Then why didn't he say what he meant. Maybe he meant that Reagan had this powerful political effect, BUT IN THE WRONG DIRECTION. Why didn't he state clearly that it was wrong?
Mr. Obama said of the electorate in 1980:
I think they felt like with all the excesses of the 1960s and 1970s and government had grown and grown
And what were those excesses? They were feminism, the consumer rights movement, the civil rights movement, the environmental movement, and the antiwar movement. These are excesses to candidate Obama? I realize that the key demographic of the Obama supporter is probably that 18-29 market, that corporate America is so adept at selling to. Too young to remember the busting of the unions, the tax cuts for the rich, mentally ill put out on the streets, double digit interest rates, the selloff of the media to right wing corportate interests, billions spent on the "Star Wars space sheild", the pre-election negotiations with the Iranians to hold our hostages just long enough to get him elected, the cocaine deals with the Contras to raise money to arm Iranians (while we were also arming the Iraqis) and the War on Drugs boondogggle that costs billions but yeilds no results.
