Recently in the McCain campaign against ‘earmarks’, McCain surrogates have been pointing to a $1 Million earmark for facility expansion at the University of Chicago Hospital, where Michelle Obama works. They seem to imply that the timeline is such that after this earmark, Michelle got a substantial raise from somewhere around $150k to around $300k. From what I could tell, the earmark was requested in the customary manner (not in the middle of the night). Ultimately, the earmark was cancelled, and was disclosed by the Obama campaign in March as part of total earmark disclosure in the Democratic primary campaign.
